DELRAY BEACH — An apartment building, a hotel, offices and a retail center could all become part of the South County Government Administrative complex in Delray Beach off Congress Avenue.
County commissioners last month instructed staff to move forward with a plan that would put both government buildings and private development on the 25-acre site. It would allocate 14.2 acres for governmental uses and the remaining 10.4 acres for private development.
The Delray Beach complex is 1,000 feet south of West Atlantic Avenue on the east side of Congress Avenue.
What started out seven years ago as a modest $6 million renovation project has now become a massive $200 million redevelopment project. The county's Facilities Development & Operations division will put together a more detailed plan for commissioners to review later this year but the concept of mixing in private development along with government buildings was approved.
