On Friday, a federal judge heard arguments over whether the parental rights law should be temporarily blocked.
The initial lawsuit brought by the ACLU of Iowa, Lambda Legal and Jennifer and Block LLP claimed the law is unconstitutional. They specifically focused on parts of the bill that ban Kindergarten through 6th graders from learning about gender identity and sexual orientation, require school staff to report students who request gender affirming accommodations and outlaw books with sexually explicit material.
The judge heard from plaintiffs in that lawsuit, along with Penguin Random House, a book publishing company, since their lawsuit is similar.
