The Florida House voted 106-7 on Wednesday to expand instruction in public schools on the history of communism, even as some Democrats expressed concerns about students as young as kindergarteners learning about the topic.
That said, the bill (SB 1264) received bipartisan support and it’s headed to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ desk for his consideration. The Senate had approved the bill on March 1.
Starting in the 2026-27 school year, instruction on the history of communism must be age appropriate and developmentally appropriate, according to the legislation. And the topics include:
