WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — In a legal battle against Florida's Commission on Ethics, nearly 80 elected officials, including some from the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast, are challenging the recently expanded Form 6 requirement, calling it a government overreach.
The law, which went into effect at the beginning of this year, has expanded the financial disclosure obligation to include elected officials of towns, villages, and cities.
State officials including the Governor, lawmakers, state attorneys, county sheriffs, county commissioners and school superintendents were already required to complete Form 6.
As CBS12 News previously reported, Florida lawmakers wanted to level the playing field and unveil potential conflicts of interest by extending the Form 6 requirement. However, elected leaders from towns, villages and cities argue that they serve their communities, often for little to no pay, and find this new requirement invasive and unnecessary.
