FORT LAUDRDALE, Fla. – With Memorial Day coming up next Monday, America’s veterans looking for some rest and relaxation might want to think about heading to Florida after it was named one of the best places for military retirees in the country.
Analyzed by WalletHub, the study named Florida as the second best state in America for military retirees with a total score of 59.80. The state specifically ranked fourth for quality of life, 11th in economic environment, and 18th in health care for military retirees.
“Transitioning from military to civilian life isn’t easy, but the best states for military retirees make that adjustment as smooth as possible. In addition to providing the conditions necessary for our veterans to thrive financially, they also have ample resources for taking care of military retirees’ physical and mental health,” WalletHub analyst Cassandra Happe said.
For its findings, the study compared all 50 states and the District of Columbia based on their ability to provide comfortable military retirement. The data included metrics on veterans per capita and the number of VA health facilities to job opportunities for veterans.
