Three U.S. House seats are being contested in districts that encompass or touch Palm Beach County in the upcoming November election. All three will have Republican primaries Tuesday, Aug. 20 that will produce winners to face Democrats in November.
A fourth spot — U.S. House District 20 — will not have a race. Democrat Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, the first Black woman to represent the district, was re-elected in January 2022 to serve a second term. She had replaced Alcee Hastings, who served from 1992 until his death in 2021.
The district includes most of the majority-Black precincts in and around western and central Broward County and a small portion of Palm Beach County, including Riviera Beach, Belle Glade and voters who live near Palm Beach International Airport.
In all, Florida has 28 members of Congress who serve a term of two years, with each seat up for election before the start of its next session.
