MLB draft: 5 high school prospects from Central Florida

When it comes to MLB draft prospects, players with Central Florida ties always are a factor.

The first day of the draft won’t be any different Sunday when the Cleveland Guardians select No. 1 overall (Rounds 3-10 are Monday and 11-20 Tuesday).

A year ago, Dylan Crews (Lake Mary) was taken second overall by the Washington Nationals. Arjun Nimmala (Strawberry Crest in Hillsborough County) went to Toronto with the No. 20 pick and  Charlee Soto (Kissimmee) went 34th to the Minnesota Twins.

Wyatt Langford, who starred at Florida out of Trenton in nearby Gainesville, was taken fourth by the Texas Rangers. Jac Caglianone is expected to follow in his footsteps as a potential top 5 pick after setting the home-run record with the Gators this season.
