Florida lawmakers Jared Moskowitz and Matt Gaetz teamed up Monday to introduce a bipartisan resolution to the U.S. House of Representatives honoring the life of Corey Comperatore, the father killed while shielding his family from gunfire at the rally for Donald Trump on Saturday.
Comperatore, 50, was killed during the attempted assassination of the former president that left two others injured in Butler, Pennsylvania. When the bullets began to fly, the retired volunteer fire chief dived on top of his wife and two daughters to block them with his own body. They survived the shooting unscathed.
The resolution introduced by Moskowitz, a Democrat, and Gaetz, a Republican, “recognizes the life of Corey Comperatore and his service to the country, and that he “gave his life for his wife and two daughters.” It also “calls on United States Government officials and politicians to condemn the attempted assassination of former President Donald J. Trump” and “condemns political violence in all its forms.”
