WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — The start of a new school year is just days away. Numerous homeless students will be among those young people returning to classrooms in the Palm Beach County School District.
Palm Beach County School Board member Erica Whitfield has provided to CBS12 News the number of homeless students who were in school during the 2023-2024 school year.
Students living in a car: 230
Students living in a shelter: 320
Students living in a motel: 346
Students living in shared housing: 4571
Grand total: 5467
Nearly 5,500 homeless students in Palm Beach County School District
