NEW YORK (TND) — Federal prosecutors have rewritten an indictment against New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez and his wife, charging the two with conspiring to have him act as an agent of Egypt and Egyptian officials.
The indictment, filed in Manhattan federal court on Thursday, says the conspiracy occurred from January 2018 to June 2022.
It comes just weeks after the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York and Federal Bureau of Investigation announced the Democratic senator, his wife and three businessmen were charged for alleged bribery schemes that benefitted the businessmen and the government of Egypt. Menendez and his wife pleaded not guilty during their arraignment at the end of September.
