Sen. Rick Scott Reintroduces Bill to Stop Biden Admin Purchase of Chinese-Made COVID Tests at Taxpayer Expense

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Rick Scott reintroduced his No Taxpayer Dollars for Communist Chinese COVID Tests Act, a bill that would prohibit the use of federal funds to purchase at-home tests for COVID-19 that are imported from, manufactured in, or a subsidiary of a company in Communist China. Senator Scott was joined by Senators Roger Marshall, Josh Hawley and Mike Braun. Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger is leading the charge in the House of Representatives.

In November, Senator Rick Scott and Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger sent a letter to Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra urging him and the Biden administration to stop using federal funds to purchase at-home tests for COVID-19 that are manufactured by companies or subsidiaries of companies headquartered in Communist China. Earlier this year, the HHS announced that it would purchase $600 million in COVID-19 tests and named 12 companies that gained the contract and implied that each was an American company. Upon further investigation, it was found that some of these companies have foreign ownership, and at least one is a Chinese company—and likely at the mercy of the Chinese Communist Party. Senator Scott has yet to receive a response.
