PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) — Corporal punishment is a common disciplinary practice in schools across the state, but many are trying to redefine how it’s used.
University of Florida student Graham Bernstein is a strong opponent of corporal punishment in public schools. As the Political Affairs Director of the Florida Students Policy Forum, he’s pushing a bill that will protect parents’ rights and disabled students from corporal punishment.
“State law is very strongly on the side of letting these school districts do school corporal punishment, even if a parent doesn’t want anything to do with it or if a school district decides they’re going to vote to not do it anymore,” Bernstein said.
